Prerequisites:  Instructor Approval/Audition only – completed the spring prior

Course Description:  The colorguard is an auditioned co-op course with the marching band course.  All students enrolled in colorguard are under the same policies and expectations of the marching band ensemble.  Weekly practices are required as well as a 2 week colorguard camp at the end of July.  All students wishing to participate in colorguard must complete an audition held in the Spring of the prior year.
Tosses, spins, and numerous other flag fundamentals will be taught.  The opportunity for other mediums outside the colorguard flag such as airbaldes, swing flags, and rifles are available at certain intervals and at instructor approval.  Colorguard students are expected to memorize an established routine created by the colorguard instructor in a timely manner.  Coordinating music with the colorguard routine will also be covered.   At home preparation and self-responsibility are essential to achieving success in this course.  Students are expected to perform up to their ability 100% of the time as it relates to posture, respect for others, and learning and memorizing any assigned routine and marching drill.  The Royal Riverking Marching Band provides music for all home football games and several out of town performances including: festivals, parades, and competitions.  This course meets the fine arts graduation requirement.
