Clinton High School Bands

Grade: 9, 10, 11, 12

Prerequisites:  Instructor Approval/Previous music experience     Semester:  1   Credits:  1

Course Description:  Concert Band is the entry level instrumental band ensemble.  Basic performance skills and fundamentals are addressed.  Selected music is used to enhance and improve upon these basic performing skills.  The band performs 3 concerts during second and third trimesters, while also making up half the pep band for all basketball performances with the Symphonic Band students. Other optional performances are available upon request, and include the following: honor bands, solo contests, and small group performances.  Students will learn and review major scales/rudiments/arpeggios as they relate to their instrument along with basic rhythmic skills, tone quality, music terminology, and history as it relates to the music being performed.  Students are expected to demonstrate proficiency in major scales, show respect for the music and each other, and follow the instructions of the conductor.  Daily practice is expected of all band students.  Students must attend all scheduled performances and rehearsals and participate in a weekly private lesson with an instructor.  Students can participate in both CONCERT BAND and a CHOIR course.  The band and choir schedules rotate to allow any student to participate in both ensembles while not losing an elective spot on their schedule.  This course meets the fine arts graduation requirement.
